The most effective way to protect yourself from fire is to identify and remove fire hazards. During a fire, early notification from fire alarms and an evacuation plan that has been practiced regularly can save lives. Treat all alarms as real and always know two ways out of the building. If you encounter smoke, stay low. 

What to Do:

• Activate the nearest fire alarm pull station.
• Notify occupants and help those in your immediate area who may need assistance.
• Contain the fire by closing doors as you exit.
• Evacuate the building at the nearest exit. Stay low under any smoke. Do not use elevators.
• Go to the designated Assembly Area for the building.
• Call the Department of Public Safety at 911 or activate a blue light phone tower as soon as you are in a safe place.
• If you are not able to evacuate the building, call the Department of Public Safety to inform them that you cannot exit.
• Do not re-enter the building - under any circumstance - until authorized to do so by Department of Public Safety personnel.
